Touching down at home after four days and three night to attend this year's TooManyGames convention with @sarajayechan, my sister, and a friend of hers. It's the first time I've been away from home with such a large group and without my parents, and only the second time I'd spent multiple days away from home - back in 2016, Sara and I also attended Otakon and took pictures of a group of Fire Emblem cosplayers. We didn't get a whole lot of pictures today, as we'd left right around the time of the cosplay contest. This year, I'd dressed up as Joker (Ren Amamiya) from Persona 5, but only for Saturday.
I'd focused my energy on two things: getting some more games to add to my NES and SNES libraries, and getting an autograph from Colleen O'Shaughnessy, who's been in the voice-acting business for more than two decades (you may know her as the current voice of Tails and the original voice of Charmy Bee from Sonic the Hedgehog, but it's relevant to my interests as she also voices Monica from Fire Emblem). I got to meet Colleen on Saturday, and she happily signed a print of Fire Emblem Heroes artwork of the two characters she voices from the Three Houses games: Monica and her arch-enemy Kronya. If they'd allowed it, I would have asked her to include a message that said "To Lady Edelgard's #3 fan". Why not "#1 fan"? Play Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, and you'll get it.
Adventures of Lolo 3 was the big win of the weekend. I make a point never to spend more than $50 for any game from a generation older than the PlayStation 3, but considering how rare a copy of Lolo 3 is to find in the wild (I'd played and finished the other two after learning how to game the password system), I'm willing to make an exception. I also snagged a copy of Wizards & Warriors III, giving me every game in that series (I have the first Wizards & Warriors and its sequel, Ironsword, a.k.a. the one with Fabio on the cover). I don't know why these games weren't included in Rare Replay, even as DLC. They're definitely tough, but still worth including as part of Rare's back catalog (along with Captain Skyhawk, which is also missing from Rare Replay).
Most surprisingly of all, I made $200 from selling over a dozen of my old games, effectively making back the money I'd spent for one afternoon. That's more than three times as much as I would have expected to make by selling them at my neighborhood yard sales.
I didn't leave out my dad, though. He asked for a couple of Atari 2600 games - Laser Blast and Berzerk, both of which I used to play at my grandmother's house as a wee lad - and I threw in a couple of Atari 7800 games as a bonus, since they also play on my parents' Atari 2600+ console. He was happy when I showed them to him. I'm worried about cracking them open to clean them out from the inside because I've never had problems with dust with Atari 2600 games the same way I still do with NES cartridges. Skate or Die 2 still won't work properly after I cleaned it twice. Eh...it only cost me $10, so it's no big loss.
The only snag was that heat exhaustion, hunger, and dehydration got to our party on Saturday. If I had more time, I'd have tried to embarrass myself playing in the Tekken 8 tournament and getting bodied in the first round (the only time I'd ever advanced past the first round in any on-site tournament was last year when I played Puyo Puyo Tetris; I was surprised that I'd won). Other than that, it was a blast getting to see and hang out with Sara again. I don't know if we'll get to arrange a full meeting like this next year since my sister's moving back out, but I definitely want to go back to TMG again, even if it means I have to go solo like I used to do before I changed jobs.
