waltzoidBecause I'd been dawdling on it for so long, I decided to put the Birthright route of Fire Emblem Fates to bed today on my way home from work.
Just my luck...it's one of those games where you have to complete two levels back-to-back without saving. It's a good thing these aren't overloaded with reinforcements.
For Chapter 27, I was able to get through it by putting most of my army in "attack" mode and letting them come to me while trying to exploit their weaknesses. I whiffed a few times, but I didn't lose anyone (not that it mattered since I was playing the game on Casual mode). Defeating Garon was simply a matter of walking up to him and letting Corrin bash him in the face with the Blazing Yato a couple of times (and a pair of lucky Dragon Fang activations for good measure). I'm surprised that Bölverk, with its 1-3 range, didn't whack anyone, Corrin included.
For the Endgame chapter (Dawn Breaks), I had to play defensively, pairing up units and hoping that they had enough strength to withstand the enemies coming my way so I could open up a path to Blight Dragon Garon. This time, I did lose a few characters, but it didn't matter because experience points are meaningless at this stage. To ensure my success, I used all of my highest-rated characters, including Corrin and her "waifu" Rhajat (which means no Kana for you!), even though the game at least gave me the option to swap out characters because...I guess everyone came along for the final battle. Why Corrin is able to activate the Dragon Veins that restore Garon's HP, I don't think I'll understand. Two hits from Blazing Yato and Garon inexplicably moving away from his throne later, I win. The dragon is defeated, Ryoma is crowned king of Hoshido, they make peace with Nohr now that Garon isn't there to screw things over, Corrin hallucinates seeing Azura again, and that's that.
Honestly, I skipped the credits because I was eager to eat dinner and I didn't want to wait for ten minutes just to see all the ending cards, so I'll just tell you which supports I finished with:
I didn't bother reaching S-rank with any of the Deeprealms kids because I'd already spent over 40 hours grinding to get my first-gen units all paired up and I wanted to finish the game quickly. Doing the third Castle Invasion battle map was a no-go because I was up against 40 level 15+ promoted units and I was only allowed to bring 10 with me. Ugh.
Somewhere down the line, I'll move onto the Conquest and Revelation routes, but for now, I need a break.
