Be a hero and save the world! (Eventually)

A few nights ago, I played Final Fantasy XIV to try to finish my level 20 Gladiator class quest and ran into that annoyance of annoyances: the solo questing queue.
Sometimes you'll go through a series of quests and talk to an NPC who'll lead you into an instanced battle against a group of a half-dozen or more enemies (with other NPCs chipping in to help you out depending on the battle). When I ran into Mylla, the NPC who would lead me to the "boss" battle for that quest, I also ran face-first into a counter that basically said "You are #36 in line for this quest".
Huh?!
So I stood there and waited for several minutes, hoping I'd be able to get that finished and go back to the main story quests.
Ten minutes later:
"You are #34 in line".
That's when I gave up and decided to put it off for tonight, hoping that there'd be much less congestion. I guess I should have expected increased traffic due to people boycotting World of Warcraft and related products because of the big Activision-Blizzard sexual harassment fiasco. In hindsight, seeing five other players standing around Mylla doing nothing should have been an even bigger clue that something was "off"...
