A new hope?

Well, Wednesday's Nintendo Direct certainly was one to watch. A small part of me is surprised that Nintendo led the show with a new Fire Emblem game. Maybe I shouldn't have been, considering how popular Fire Emblem Heroes and Three Houses are right now. Also unexpected: that this new game is an action RPG like Fire Emblem Warriors (which my save file says I've logged over 100 hours in so far after finishing the game and unlocking the true potential of Lucina's weapon), set in what appears to be an alternate universe of Fódlan, kind of like how Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is set in an alternate past of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

As the Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes trailer is only two days old (and the game doesn't officially drop until this summer), we don't have any concrete information to go on except that Byleth, Dimitri, Edelgard, Claude, and Hubert are in it. There was one clip from the trailer that caught a few of my friends' eyes, though:

A somewhat familiar-looking new character from the Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes announcement trailer from February 9, 2022's Nintendo Direct.

This redhead lady showed up for about a second near the end, and she looks like what a post-timeskip Monica (that girl from Chapters 7 and 8 whom I'm currently writing a fanfic about) might look like. I would be very, very surprised if it actually turned out to be her or someone else related to House Ochs, but I'm going to say "that's not her" until we get more information on the game and some of the new characters in the coming months. Surely enough, a fan of The Ghost of Ochs also noticed the similarity.

I wonder how many of these new characters will eventually make it into Heroes as playable units? Rowan and Lianna from the first Fire Emblem Warriors didn't make the cut (probably because they both use sword and their play styles would be too similar), but characters from Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE did, so I don't think spinoff characters are totally off limits.
